Lesser Goldfinch(Carduelis psaltria) Small finches that can be found, usually in flocks, in weedy areas, patches of thistle and on dandelions in lawns where they feed on seeds. The adult males have a black crown, greenish back and yellow underparts. The wings and tail are black and the wings have some white patches. The females are dull greenish yellow with dark rump and wings. Photo taken 6/8/02. |

The above Lesser Goldfinch was brought in with two siblings in this nest. They had no feathers or down and had to be kept in an incubator. Photo taken 6/23/02. |
